Windows reserves 20% network bandwidth. You can release this by following these steps.
- Go to run and type gpedit.msc .
- Navigate to Computer Configuration ----> Administrative templates ---->Network.
- Open QoS Packet Scheduler.
- Double click Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
- Not cofigured would be chosen. However by default the value is 20% .
- Select enable and make the value 0.
- This should boost your net speed considerably.

when i put gpedit.msc in run and hit enter..it says file not found?..any ideas
Seems like you are using Windows XP Home edition. Unfortunately gpedit.msc [Group Policy Editor] is not there in Home edition. There should be some registry edit tweak releasing the 20% bandwidth . I will soon post it.
Thanks for this tip. :) Hope to see more of tuning tips from from the site. :)
